The 39th Carifta Games Championship got underway at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town, Grand Cayman Island, B.W. I.
Bermuda picked up three medals on the first day, Jeneko Place, Juma Mouchette and Jasmine Brunson all stood on the Podium.
Place qualified for the Boys 100 Meter Dash Under 17 finals following his winning time of 10.76 in Heat 3, Blaine Simmons ran in Heat 1 finishing fourth with a time of 11.36. Place grabbed the Silver Medal in the Boys 100 Meter Dash Under 17 Final when he finished in a time of 10.71.
In the Girls 1500 Meter Run Under 17 race Shuntae Hendrickson finished 8th clocking a time of 5:23.84, while Mouchette picked up a Bronze Medal in the Boys 1500 Meter Run Under 17 race with a time of 4:12.82, Dage Minors finished 8th in the same event clocking 4:20.59.
In the Women 1500 Meter Run Under 20 Taylor Ashley Bean completed the race in a time of 5:01.52 that saw her finish 5th, while Alexis Bean did not finish the race.
Trey Simons finished the Men 1500 Meter Run Under 20 race in 6th place with a time of 4:09.96, while Brunson won the Bronze Medal in the Women Long Jump Under 20. Brunson had a top leap of 5.86m on her final leap to grab the medal. Ryan Furbert finished 12th in the Men High Jump Under 20 with a leap of 1.85m.
