Glenn Blakeney Minister of the Environment & Sports announced the 2010/11 budget for the Department of Youth and Sport on the floor of the House of the Assembly last Evening.
In doing so Blakeney corrected a false report by the Bermuda Broadcasting Company sports reporter Colin Thompson. Two weeks ago, Thompson had a lead story on the budget in which he used 2007/08 Actual Expenditure Details to mislead the General Public and the Sporting Public into thinking that the Bermuda Cricket Board was to get two point one million and the Bermuda Football Association would receive three million.
However Blakeney revealed in his speech that the 2010/11 budget for the Sport Development Programme (Department of Youth and Sport) was to receive a total of three million, one hundred and forty-five thousand dollars.
The programme provides funding for a number of Government sports initiatives, including the annual grants to the National Sports – Cricket and Football.
A grant of Eight hundred thousand dollars was provided to the Bermuda Cricket Board for Cricket and not the two point one million reported and a grant of One million dollars was provided to the Bermuda Football Association and not the three million reported.
