Haley Ball and Tyler Lopes will represent Bermuda at the first leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s (CEA) 2010 Junior Jumping competition to be held in Barbados on February 27th and 28th 2010.
Lopes, the veteran CEA competitor has moved up to the 16 years and under age group, while Ball will make her debut as the 14 years and under rider. Ball beat out six other junior riders back in September 2009 when the Bermuda Equestrian Federation held a CEA trials event to select the team.
The CEA competition sees the likes of Antigua, Barbados, Cayman, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Bermuda compete in a junior jumping competition over the course of the year. Three teams travel to the islands according to their rotation for the year and are represented by two riders, a 14 years and under rider and 16 years and under rider. They will compete against teams from Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad during this rotation of the CEA. Ball and Lopes will ride a series of local horses from Barbados that they would’ve never ridden prior to the competition and will only have five minutes to get used to on competition day!
McKeisha Smith former Bermuda rider will travel with the team to Barbados. This will be her second stint as team manager/coach for a CEA team and the BEF wishes her and both riders much success. Lopes rides out of the Terceira’s stables while Ball rides out of Spiceland’s Riding Centre.
