Brazil's top women's rugby players have thrown their full support behind the campaign for Rugby Sevens to be included at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
On October 2, 2009, the International Olympic Committee elected Rio as Host City for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Celebrations abounded across Brazil including among the nation's Women's Sevens team, all of whom expressed their enthusiasm to welcome Rugby Sevens at the Olympic Games in Rio.
The Brazil Women's Sevens team have remained unbeaten in five years of South American competition and back in March represented the continent at the first ever Women's Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai, narrowly losing the Bowl final to China.
For captain Beatriz 'Baby' Futuro, her sister Cristiana and teammate Bárbara Rodrigues Santiago, the message was clear.
"Rio is ready to welcome Rugby Sevens at the Olympic Games in 2016, it would be an incredible experience for all our players," said Cristiana Futuro.
Rodrigues Santiago said: "We would be very proud to compete in our sport in our home country but it would also be a privilege to welcome fellow athletes from all over the world to compete on the world's greatest stage in Rio de Janeiro. Rugby Sevens is a perfect fit to the Games - quick and creative, like the Carnival!"
Beatriz Futuro added "Brazilian Rugby awaits the world's greatest athletes here for the 2016 Olympic Games."
