Former Caribbean champions' Bermuda took on the Trinidad & Tobago national team at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Ground, St Augustine going down 32 – 19.
Bermuda surprised the reigning Caribbean champs Trinidad & Tobago who are currently ranked 48th on the IRB world rankings when Andrew Hook scored a Try as early as the 8th minute and Eoghan O’Dwyer kicked the conversion to take a 7 – 0 lead. Trinidad & Tobago fought back to score a penalty conversion by centre Don Rojas Jr. which trimmed the Bermuda lead to 7-3 and then a Try from Mark Hamilton that was converted by Rojas saw them take a 10 – 7 lead.
Hamilton and Rojas again combined again in the 27th minute for Trinidad & Tobago to make the score 17 – 7, an unconverted 34th minute try by open side winger Andre Cabera made it 22-7. Jack Ellison scored another Try for Bermuda and O’Dwyer kicked the conversion making the half time score 22 – 14.
Nine minutes after the resumption, Bermuda continued their uncompromising pattern of play and had their hosts on the rack when an unconverted O’Dwyer Try made the score at 22 – 19, Rojas score a penalty conversion to give the host some breath room with the score was 25 – 19. In the 72nd minute as Cabera's second try and another Rojas conversion made it 32-19
Curtis Nero, Hon. Treasurer of the Trinidad & Tobago Rugby Football Union and Chairman of the Selection Committee said, “It was a very good competitive game that went back and forth with both teams looking good”.
“Both teams put in a good effort and there was some tough tackling going on as the game went on”, concluded Nero.
